Stepping Up and Acting

For some reason she changed up her routine place for her smoke break.  Then she observed something and acted on her observations to save a life.

Courtney Best, an employee of a Papa Murphy’s pizza shop in Corpus Christi, Texas, helped save the life of a 7-year-old who was kidnapped, when she decided to take her break in front of the store, instead the rear as usual.

Courtney told KRIS 6 News, that she usually takes her smoke break in the back of the pizza store, but for some reason on July 8, she decided to go in front.

It was at that moment Courtney saw an Amber Alert on her cellphone about Nicolas Gomez, who had been abducted by a man identified as Channing Galbraith, in a White Dodge Avenger.

Courtney says she normally doesn’t pay too much attention to Amber Alerts, but her “gut” told her something different.

She tells KRISTV:

“My stomach started knotting up, so I was like, ahh, I’m gonna go, I’m gonna check and see.”

Thankfully, she did.

She explains:

“I stepped outside, I was standing by the trash can and I seen a white car pull up and I just happen to take my phone with me cause we don’t look at our phones at work, and I looked down and I saw ‘white Dodge Avenger amber alert’, and I was like, nah, that’s not him, the man was walking across the parking lot looking at me… ’cause I was the only person out here, with the little boy and the little boy looked scared and I was like no, that’s not him,” she told KRIS 6 News

But something inside her told her she had to be sure; so the brave woman discreetly took her car and drove next to the Dodge and checked the license plates.

It was the car the police were looking for.

She immediately she called 911 and started following the vehicle that was now leaving the parking lot.

“And I’m on the phone with 911 and I tell her, look, the plates match up, he’s turning left on Staples but I’m gonna follow him.”

Thanks to Courtney’s call, Corpus Christi police were waiting for Galbraith and thwarted his plans.

He faces kidnapping charges.

The only way that story could get any better, is if she beat the piss out of the kidnapper.

good point. I usually hate cell phones, but in cases like this, I like them, and it makes all the bs associated with cell phones worth it.

she did the intelligent and correct thing, she rang the p’lice and kept this dangerous person and the kidnapped boy in sight. that allowed the speed of technology ( love fibre optics! ) to put those p’licemen in his path at once.
I am reminded one of the earliest and certainly longest lasting forms of p’licing in your country is citizen militia. it wsn’t as formal as the National Guard, ( I think it’s become that, correct me if no ) but you also still have a form in neighbourhood watches and every day citizens just like this young lady.
          good on her.

The militia has a tradition from the colonial period, where the authorities were not necessariy within shouting distance.

And still exists in spirit as well in some part duty of each citizen of your country to look after the place, keep it safe and tidy, as it were.
